My ten year old son often pronounces his approval of life circumstances with a single word: “Sweet!”
“Son, we’re having pizza for dinner.” “Sweet!” Son, you can stay up a little later tonight if you’d like. “Sweet!”To live in true “sweet”-ness, there’s a certain root that needs to be cut out of our lives. Toward the end of the book of Hebrews, the biblical author writes: “Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.”
Here’s an invitation to pray that God would shine his light on any resentment or bitterness churning away within us.
Because you know what that would be …?
Sweet!

Great point! I have to pray often about bitterness and resentment about past hurts and experiences. I think if we were all honest with ourselves, we would look inside and see lots of stuff we wouldn’t be too proud of. I attempt to let it remind me how broken and frail I really am, and that only makes me rely on God’s sufficiency and grace that much more!
Great thoughts!
